American disco titans Lipps Inc. dropped “Funkytown” as the lead single of the group’s debut album Mouth to Mouth in 1979, and it didn’t take long to become a global success.
“Funkytown” could easily be one of the greatest one-hit-wonders ever created, while at the same time standing strong as a party song that still gets people grooving to this day. Lipps Inc. couldn’t have hoped for better success than this eighties chart-topper.
Lipps Inc. was created specifically for this ever-popular dance track. Miss Black Minnesota 1976 provided the vocals, and the sound of Cynthia Johnson’s voice has lived on forever since.
