What do you get when you combine 70 tiny birds and several electric guitars?
Since 1999, ‘From Here to Ear’ has been touring the world in various forms and fashions, allowing Celeste Boursier-Mougenot’s collaboration with 70 zebra finches to be experienced by art and music lovers everywhere.
Boursier-Mougenot always wanted to make music, and this sound project is nothing short of that. When he finally got this project rolling, he had no idea that it would be such a success.
The strings of the instruments simulate branches and wires. The birds love landing on them, and the sounds they make are spontaneous and charming. It’s music to the ears of so many museum visitors.
Though the display is complicated to install and louder than most other art projects, it’s an instant hit. All 70 finches are beautiful and talented. They have vet checkups every day to make sure that they are fit to perform.
But I doubt they know they’re performing! This entire stage is set to make them little musicians, and we just can’t get enough of the random and melodic sounds they make.
